PETROLHEAD enthusiasts from across Somerset roared into Ilminster for this year’s Classic Car Show.

Despite terrible weather conditions, hundreds of hardy souls attended the show at the Recreation Ground to take in the 150 classic motors on display.

There was a huge selection of cars and motorbikes on display, but a 1979 VW Camper, owned by Stephen Denman in Yeovil, won the judges vote, with Malcolm Johnson from Taunton scooping the public vote.

The free show is a hit with the crowds, with both locals and visitors alike heading to the show, with cars spanning 100 years of motoring exhibited.

Neil Roden, one of the organisers of the show, said it was a great success.

Mr Roden said: “Considering the weather forecast, it went exceedingly well.

“We had over 150 classic cars and bikes on display, and they all braved the elements.

“Hundreds of visitors enjoyed themselves, it is always a good show and rounds off the Ilminster experience very well.

“All in all it was an absolutely great event and a great finale for the weekend.”

As well as the array of motors, visitors were entertained by the Ilminster Majorettes and the Yeovil Town Band while the UK’s Strongest Disabled Strongman, Gary Clarke from Ilminster, wowed the crowds by lifting concrete balls weighing up to 70kg, and a dog show, with paw-fect pooches delighting onlookers.
