ILMINSTER Freemasons showed their generous side as they donated more than £4,000 to local good causes.

At a recent meeting of the group, Master Keith Green of Nyanza Lodge donated the funds after the members raised funds throughout the year.

Ilminster Brownies received a £1,000 donation, as did Ilminster Youth Football Club.

The Ilminster Senior Citizens Luncheon received a £250 cash boost, and the cancer charity Anthony Nolan Appeal received £1,500.

The Freemasons, both locally and nationally, have gained an impressive reputation for donating money to charity, raised more than £1 million for charities and hospices in 2015.

Next year also heralds two important birthdays for the organisation, with the United Grand Lodge of England celebrating its 300th anniversary with the local branch, the Nyanza Lodge, celebrating its 150th anniversary.
