THE deadline for objections to the controversial Shudrick Valley planning application has been extended following pressure from a local campaign group.

The Save Shudrick Valley Group (SSVG) spoke out in last week’s Chard and Ilminster News after it was given just four weeks to respond to the most recent planning application for the Shudrick Valley site in Ilminster.

That deadline has now been extended, from March 23 to April 15.

John Gidlow, chairman of the SSVG, said: “We are obviously very happy with the outcome and the extra time this will give us to make considered and valid observations on the application.

“We do still feel that this should have been a brand new application and not a revision.”

The amendments, which were submitted by developers Dillington Estate and CG Fry and Son, will see the rejected plan for 330 homes reduced to 220.

This will now also be considered at an Area West meeting on May 20 following pressure from SSVG.

Speaking after the amendments were announced, John Gidlow said: “To pretend that this is a revised or amended plan is quite ridiculous. It is a new application with different submissions on every aspect. Twenty-two documents are online altogether with hundreds of pages.”
