A CALL has been made by MP Marcus Fysh for Ilminster people to return their petition slips to him in opposition to the planned closure of the Barclays Bank branch in the town.

It was revealed late last year that Barclays confirmed that it would be closing its branch in Ilminster in March 2016 due to a drop in customers.

News has angered Mr Fysh who has described the imminent closure of the branch as “short-sighted.”

Mr Fysh organised a petition to be sent out to people in the Ilminster area to sign in protest about the planned closing.

“Ilminster is a thriving community,” said Mr Fysh. “The closure of services should not be an option.”

Now Mr Fysh has asked for any outstanding petition forms to be returned so he can press Barclays to have a change of heart.

People can either post their forms to Marcus Fysh MP at House of Commons, London SW1A OAA or, alternatively, drop them into the Ilminster Town Council offices in North Street where they will be collected on Friday (January 22, 2016).
