A PETITION has been launched by MP Marcus Fysh to try and save the Barclays Bank branch in Ilminster from closure.

The Yeovil MP has described the planned imminent closure of the branch in Ilminster as “short-sighted” and has brought bank users together to oppose the closure.

It has been confirmed that Barclays will be closing its branch in March 2016 due to a fall in walk-in customers.

But it has angered the local MP who has now started a petition to try and save the branch from closure.

“Consultation with residents has been requested, however, I believe the intended closure to be short-sighted and not of benefit to the residents of Ilminster,” he said.

“Development without our market towns is continuing, and in particular, Ilminster is a thriving community – the closure of services should not be an option.

“A petition will be sent to constituents in Ilminster and I would ask for circulation of this and to as many residents as possible.”

Mr Fysh added: “I will be personally meeting with the branch and management team to discuss the planned closure. Any support in keeping this branch open will be welcome.”

Each completed petition should be sent back to Marcus Fysh MP, House of Commons, London SW1A OAA.

Completed on-line versions should be sent back to Marcus.Fysh@mp@parliament.uk.
