THE model reindeer which were attacked by vandals earlier this month went back on display outside the Shrubbery Hotel in Ilminster on Christmas Eve – thanks to members of Ilminster Town Football Club.

There was outrage at the mindless vandalism which saw the reindeer – which had been the central part of a Christmas display outside the hotel – badly damaged and bits thrown down Station Road.

But Ilminster Town Football Club’s Darren Manley and Paul Webber, plus Paul’s son Louie, were able to work their magic and put the reindeer back together again.

The Shrubbery’s general manager Mark Tobin was delighted to announce that the reindeer would be back re-positioned on their podiums outside the hotel on Christmas Eve.

“After some restoration we have managed to salvage Christmas at the Shrubbery Hotel,” said Mark.

“It is a positive end to the story and comes after the amazing response we’ve had from the Ilminster community following the mindless vandalism.”

Mark added: “We would like to thank the hundreds of people who posted their comments on our Facebook page in support of our festive decorations, and next year they will be even better.”

Paul Webber, of Ilminster Town FC, said: “All the legs and antlers of the reindeer were thrown down the road, but we’ve been able to fix them.

“We’re delighted to have been able to support the Shrubbery Hotel. The hotel has been supported the football club – we were only too pleased to return that support.”

Anyone with information regarding the vandalism should contact police on 101.
