Members of the public gathered at the Minster Church of St Mary in the heart of Ilminster on Sunday to pay their respects at the annual Civic Service of Remembrance.

The service was organised by Ilminster Town Council and the Ilminster branch of the Royal British Legion and was attended by many representatives of local groups and organisations, invited guests and members of the public.

Due to the bad weather the traditional wreath-laying ceremony following the service outside at the War Memorial was cancelled, but the wreaths will be placed around the memorial today (Wednesday, November 11) for the Armistice Day commemoration at 11am.

The service was led by Ilminster vicar, Rev Nigel Done, and there were readings from Yeovil MP Marcus Fysh and Ilminster Mayor, Cllr Rose Neave.

Wreaths were placed by people in the windows of the Minster.

A parade followed the service from the church to Greenfylde First School where refreshments were laid on.

The Mayor said: “I would like to thank everyone who attended the service and for being here to remember all those who have served for our country in the past and those who will serve our country in the future.

There were also services held in Chard, Severalls, and St Bartholemew's Church in Crewkerne.
