YEAR Three children from Greenfylde First School in Ilminster performed with percussionist Joby Burgess when they travelled to Frome to rehearse and play with Joby at The Cheese and Grain theatre in a production with other schools.

Greenfylde was invited to take part in this as a result of the Somerset Music group coming to the school to give the children a taste of samba.

Earlier this year Joby came and performed to the whole school and did an introductory workshop with Year Three. Since then, along with teacher Anne Dillon, they have been practicing their samba rhythms questions and responses given by Joby, in preparation for the Frome concert.

Headteacher Claire Oaten said: “It was very exciting to take part in this with a number of other schools – in total there were over 200 children!

“The afternoon was truly inspiring, and all the children felt such a sense of achievement after playing in this giant samba band!”
