CHILDREN from Neroche Primary School near Ilminster are enjoying the expansion of the school’s forest school provision from this term.

The school’s Parent Family Association raised nearly £1,000 to fund the purchase and construction of a new shed and equipment for the children.

Neroche’s Forest School promotes taking children out of the classroom to have new experiences such as sculpting, shelter building, appreciating nature – and toasting the odd marshmallow by a camp fire.

Children from Years 1 to 6 are now able to access the improved curriculum which also includes taking children off site for nature walks in the nearby woods and countryside.

Haillie Dellow, the school’s Forest School co-ordinator, said: “The opportunity to share our lovely countryside with the children and develop skills beyond the classroom gives a real boost to many of our children’s self-esteem and enjoyment of school.

“I am extremely grateful to the fundraising of almost £1,000 that the local community collected so that we can continue to improve the experiences we are able to give our children.”
