A PLANNING application has been submitted to build nine homes in Broadway.

Applicant Shirley Mitchard withdrew an application for 20 homes at Varden’s Farm and has returned with what she hopes is a more acceptable scheme.

A planning statement by Clifton Emery Design says: “In September 2014, an outline planning application for 20 new homes was submitted to South Somerset District Council for land on the eastern side of Broadway.

“During the consultation and preapplication and discussions a number of points were raised in support of the scheme, and where the local community and council officers thought improvements could be made.

“The application was withdrawn so the comments and issues raised could be addressed by an amended scheme.”

The proposals for the plot near the village hall include two three-bed homes, four four-bed homes, one four-five-bedhouse and two self-build plots.

The statement continues: “The design of the revised proposal seeks to achieve a distinctive and high-quality scheme that respects the character of Broadway and the surrounding countryside while taking on board the feedback from the planning officers and community representatives.”

A decision from the district council is expected by April 29.
