DAVID Laws has welcomed news that unemployment in the Yeovil constituency has fallen by 65.5% since the 2010 General Election.

In April 2010 statistics showed that 1,459 people in the Yeovil constituency were unemployed (2.9% of the economically active population). At the end of 2014, that figure had fallen to 503 or 0.9%. Unemployment in the Yeovil constituency fell 45.7% last year as 424 fewer people were registered unemployed.

Across the UK the unemployment rate has fallen to 5.8%, the lowest level in six years.

The Yeovil MP said: “These figures are really good news – it is great to see that unemployment in our area is so low and that more and more people are finding jobs.

“The fall in unemployment in the last year alone is one of the biggest on record.”
