Ilminster Town Council is to host an information event for potential election candidates next month.

The council says that "town councillors are local people who take an interest in what happens in the community; as they have varied backgrounds they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience as well as community understanding to the town council team."

In May, the 15 councillor positions on the are open for election so the town council would like to encourage local people to consider standing for office.

On March 3, at 7.30pm at the Minster Rooms, Ilminster, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Ilminster will be hosting an evening for local people to attend and find out about what is involved in being a councillor and how to take the first steps towards making it happen.

The Mayor, Councillor Emma Jane Taylor said: “If you are interested in becoming a councillor, or know someone who might just need some encouragement now is the time to act, come along to the evening or contact the town council office. We will be talking about the highs and lows of life as a councillor and explaining the election process.”
