A PLAN to replace old play equipment at the Winterhay Lane Recreation Ground in Ilminster has been published.

The plan includes new swings, an embankment slide, stepping logs and a balance beam – and two refurbished picnic tables.

Ilminster town councillor Sophie Storey, who chairs the play and paths group, said: “This is a lovely play area which is well used by local families.

“At the moment the equipment is a little tired and this plan will update the rec, providing an exciting but safe place for play.”

The youth council consulted with people who use or live close to the play and recreation area to establish what they would like to see improved and the plan is based on those findings.

Quotations for the purchase and installation of the new play equipment are being sought and it is anticipated that Ilminster Town Council will formally consider the project at its meeting on March 17.

The proposed work would be funded with money currently held by South Somerset District Council raised from developers – known as Section 106 money – specifically to revamp the Winterhay Lane play area, together with funds from the town council’s renewals budget.

Feedback on the plan can be given by contacting the town council office.
