Vital work to repair and improve the A358 between Taunton and Ilminster is taking place next week.

Somerset County Council’s highways team will be rebuilding and resurfacing the carriageway at West Hatch over a 10-day period starting on Monday 2 February.

The work will take place at night (7pm-7am) to minimise disruption, and will use temporary traffic lights to ensure that no road closures are required.

Cllr Harvey Siggs, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “The A358 is one of our busiest roads and with such high traffic volumes the carriageway has started to deteriorate.

“Resurfacing like this is much more effective than patch repairs and our teams will be rebuilding the road with an innovative new surface which should help it stay in better condition and reduce the need for future maintenance.

“We’ve planned this work so that no road closures are required, but please be aware of it and allow extra time for your journey if necessary. Thanks for your patience.”
