TWELVE bellringers in the village will attempt to break a world record this weekend.

The team will join counterparts from all over the country who are attempting to ring 21,216 changes of method known as Cambridge Surprise Maximus on Saturday, October 11.

If successful, the ringers will break a record set on Birmingham Cathedral’s bells nearly 50 years ago.

The team are subject to rules laid down by the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers.

Each ringer has to ring their bell for at least 14 hours to complete the peal, continuous and uninterrupted.

The church will be open throughout the day for visitors to listen and watch the ringers via video link.

Refreshments will be available from 10am until about 9pm, when the ringers hope to have finished.

The group hopes to raise £20,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, the church and village groups.
