ABOUT 2,500 people from far and wide came to Barrington Court near Ilminster when BBC television show Antiques Roadshow visited on Thursday.

Presenter Fiona Bruce and experts David Battie, Bunny Campione and Hilary Kay helped people find out about their prized possessions and their value.

Reporter Daniel Milligan caught up with a number of people at the event.

Hilary Charlton took along a photo of the ship Arcadia from 1913, which belonged to her husband’s grandfather, John Diaper, who was on board the liner shortly after surviving the sinking of the Titanic in 1912.

Peter Glanvill, of Chard, took along a variety of items including the first volume of the TV Times, a programme of the 1970 Bath Blues Festival and a tin ingot from the Royal Arcade on Chesil Beach in 1845.

James Lucas, of Forde Abbey, hoped to be offered about £800 for his J.R.R Tolkien books. He said they dated back to the 1960s when they were given to Readers Union members only. He found them at a recycling centre and picked them up, knowing they may be of value.

The programme’s producers expect the show to air on either February 15 or 22 next year.
