At Party on the Park, I had the privilege of unveiling the new Kiosk/Tuck Shop on the Recreation Ground.

During the earlier consultation process, it became apparent that a large number of residents felt such a facility would be an asset to the town.

At present it is a ‘no-name’ Tuck Shop and it has been agreed that we should run a competition for the young people of the town to come up with a suitable name.

If you would like to enter the competition to name the Kiosk/Tuck Shop you can collect an entry form either from the Town Council Offices or the Kiosk. The closing date is September 30.

I was delighted that so many of my official guests were able to attend the event and even more delighted that they volunteered to join my deputy and I in the Chain Gang Tug of War Team – especially as they had no idea before arriving that they would be entering a Tug of War.

I would like to thank the residents who supported the event, enabling the community groups at the Party on the Park to raise between them well over £3,000.

I also want to congratulate the Ilminster Bowls team on becoming Premier League Champions for the third year in a row and Ilminster Cricket Club’s first team for clinching the West of England League Premier Two title.

On a more serious topic, I would like to mention the concerns that skate park users, residents and town councillors have voiced over safety issues with the Skate Park.

The town clerk will be speaking to the relevant experts to find solutions to technical issues but I would like to address a simpler but just as dangerous safety issue – slow moving toddlers and skaters travelling at speed is a recipe for disaster.

I would ask parents and guardians to ensure that their young children do not venture onto the Skate Park when teenage skaters are in action.
