THERE were winners galore at the annual Dowlish Wake Flower, Vegetable and Craft Show, sponsored by Greenslade Taylor Hunt and held at Speke Hall.

The popular event has been running now for well over 20 years and this year there were 52 entrants in all, with over 300 entries across 74 categories.

Although entries were down from previous years, everyone agreed that the standard was high, with the quality of the entries noted by judges.

The sun shone brightly as villagers and their guests were welcomed by Nigel and Emma Clark to a splendid selection of tea and cakes in their garden, which was much appreciated by all.

District Cllr Sue Osborne, was greeted by Dowlish Wake Festival Society chairman Christine Williams and on hand to give out prizes, which included a family day out that was donated by Marcus Fysh, and won by Taryn Kerr, who also scooped the Male family Junior Cup, along with fellow competitor Amelia Peachey.

In the children’s classes, the Peachey family had really pulled out all the stops, making it a real family affair, with the youngest competitor, Myrtle, just eight months old, winning for her eggs, in which she had provided a helping hand to feed the chickens.

It was no surprise that star baker and vegetable grower, Rachel Webb, once again took home the New Inn trophy for most points gained across the show categories. Her fabulous tomatoes not only won first prize for best in their section but also best vegetable of the show.
