SEVENTY kilos of plastic powder have been destroyed in an industrial fire at Wydale Plastics in Crewkerne.

Crews from Chard, Yeovil and Beaminster all headed down to the commerical premise on Cathole Bridge Road at 5.19am this morning.

The fire broke out in a loading machine but thanks to the work of the firefighters it did not spread to the rest of the large factory.

To put out the blaze the team used an aerial ladder platform, five jets and a positive pressure fan and it was extinguished by 6.54am.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "The loading machine received slight fire damage and much of the building received smoke damage. Seventy kilos of plastic powder were also destroyed in the fire, the cause of which we believe to have been accidental."

Wydale Plastics is a firm which specialises in creating plastic products for the agricultural and industrial industries.
