AROUND 100 lots went under the hammer last week to raise money for Dowlish Wake’s village Hall.
Speke Hall, next to the church, was used as the day and Sunday school from its erection by William Speke in 1840 until 1949. It now serves as the village hall, hosting regular social functions.
Pippa Sage, one of the committee members, said: “It was a delightful day. We had about 30 clients and around 100 items and we raised £254.
“The money will go towards Speke Hall and some projects we are looking at in the future.
“A committee runs it now for the community. We have recently refurbished and done some painting so now we are just producing a package of projects to see where we go from here. We are looking at maybe modernising the kitchen, or reevaluating the parking.
“The people came from Bonhams in Exeter and they were fantastic. The public really enjoyed themselves and Bonhams’s have offered to come back and do a slightly different event.
“A thank you as well to the three experts from Bonhams who gave up their time for free.”
