FANCY DRESS, a sponsored silence and a static cycle are all being held at a Crewkerne shop this week to raise funds for Red Cross Week.

Staff and volunteers from the British Red Cross shop in Crewkerne will be holding a series of fun events to raise money for Red Cross Week, which runs until Saturday.

On Thursday, shoppers saw assistant manager Sue Hart, dressed as a very quiet funky chicken as she attempts to keep silent for as long as possible.

Every pound raised through Sue’s sponsored silence will be matched in minutes as Sarah Taylor, shop manager, and volunteer Rachael Hart will cycle the same time on an exercise bike in the shop on Friday.

To make things a little more difficult, Sarah will be dressed as Minnie Mouse and Rachael as a 1980s disco diva.

Sarah Taylor said: “We have lots of fun thing happening in the shop this week, including a fantastic raffle and a name the cactus competition.

“It is going to be great fun with Sue trying to keep silent and the fancy dress taking place. We’ve had a sponsored silence in the shop every year for more than 10 years, so we wanted to carry on the tradition.

“We want to encourage as many people as possible to come along for a fun-filled couple of days and help us raise as much money for Red Cross Week as possible.

“We are thankful to all our supporters for their generosity and commitment throughout the year. We couldn’t do it without you.”

This year’s appeal aims to raise more than £1 million, supporting refugees and helping in Syria and Africa. For more information, visit www.redcross.org.uk/redcrossweek.
