A MAN who admitted to posting a knife through the letterbox of his ex-girlfriend’s house in Crewkerne after making a threat to stab a neighbour has been bailed.

Kevin Dennis Treloar, 37, of Eastland Road, Yeovil, admitted to possessing a bladed article, namely a large knife, in Severalls Park Avenue, Crewkerne.

He also admitted that between December 1 and January 19 at Crewkerne he pursued a course of conduct amounting to the harassment of his former partner in that he sent her thousands of text messages and calls that were unwanted and caused distress.

The court heard that on January 19, Treolar went to the woman’s home in Crewkerne and asked to be let in.

She refused and he pushed the tip of a knife, encased in a sheath, through the letterbox and then posted it completely through landing on the doormat.

Francesca Whebell, prosecuting, said Treloar had been in a relationship with the victim for over four years and it ended in September 2015.

She added that since December she began receiving numerous text messages from the defendant and found them to be “suffocating”.

Miss Whebell said: “She received a total of 3,000 text messages and they varied in their nature explaining his love for her and to calling her names.

“On December 21 there were 60 messages between 6.36am and 11.41pm and on Christmas Eve she had 45 texts in five minutes saying he couldn’t carry on without her and said he felt unwanted.”

On January 19, he sent her messages saying he wanted to visit her but she said no so he became persistent and mentioned he would stab a neighbour if that is what she wanted.

Miss Whebell said: “She was concerned and made it clear that his suggestion was not what she wanted and he then attended her address. He asked to be let in but she refused and questioned his mental state but he said he loved her.

“He then pushed the tip of a knife, which had an eight inch blade and was in a sheath, through the letterbox but it was then withdrawn before being fully posted through the door landing on the mat.”

When Treloar was arrested by the police he was interviewed and made no comment throughout.

Defending solicitor Gareth Webb said: “This was very unusual and bizarre behaviour to put a knife through the door and it would have been a very frightening incident for the woman concerned.

“He realises he is suffering from mental ill health and has now sought assistance from Holly Court in Yeovil.”

The magistrates adjourned the case against Treloar to March 17 for a pre sentence report to be prepared.

Until then he was released on bail with conditions not to contact the victim and other named witnesses directly or indirectly and not to enter Severalls Park Avenue in Crewkerne.
