A woman from Crewkerne is in hospital with life threatening injuries after a crash on Saturday in the Beaminster area.

Police are asking for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward following the "very serious" crash at around 2pm on Saturday 28 November 2015 on the A356 near Chedington.

A white Ford Transit van, driven by a 28-year-old Crewkerne man, collided with a silver Vauxhall Astra, driven by a 40-year-old Crewkerne woman.

The driver of the Astra remains in Southampton Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the van was treated at Dorset County Hospital for minor injuries and the front seat passenger was taken to Yeovil Hospital with serious injuries.

Emergency services including police, the fire service and two air ambulances attended the scene and a road closure was put in place while they carried out their duties.  

Police Sergeant Nikki Burt, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “I am renewing my appeal for witnesses of this very serious collision.

“I am also able to release images of the vehicles just after the collision and ask anyone who saw the manner of driving of either vehicle,  prior to the incident, to contact me on 101.”

A 28-year-old Crewkerne man has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences and released on police bail pending further enquiries.
