MEMBERS of the Ilminster Scout Group – old and new – celebrated the organisation’s 100th birthday on Friday, November 20, 2015) evening.
They gathered in Market Square and then walked to the beacon on Beacon Hill to light it to commemorate the launch of Scouting in Ilminster back in 1915.
The group then returned back to the town for supper and more celebrations and was attended by Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venture Scouts, Explorers, leaders and committee members past and present.
Helen Lancaster, of Ilminster Scouts, said: “It was a fantastic night of celebrating 100 years of Scouting in Ilminster – hiking up to the beacon and the lighting of it, the rain and then the hike back to the hall for food. I’d like to thank everyone who came and helped us to celebrate the group’s centenary.”
