THREE Year Nine students from Wadham School in Crewkerne entered a science and engineering project call the Big Bang South West.

It saw Molly Daniel, Madeleine Bennett and Sophie Feilder talking to others, looking at other stalls and presenting to judges with a project called Care 4 a Coffee?

The students tested the reaction times of people who had recently consumed caffeine – a project they have been working hard on this since October.

The project required the team to monitor the reaction times of themselves, peers, family members and even teachers.

In order to show the judges their findings, they produced numerous graphs and a write-up, which were then displayed on a billboard at the actual event.

To accompany the writing, they built ‘Ned the neuron’ and a play dough brain, which were introduced to assist them in explaining the science behind caffeine. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the day and were happy to look at, and learn from, the assortment of stands.

The day was capped off with a show explaining the very basics of rocket science and an awards ceremony, in which it was announced that Care 4 a Coffee? had made it through to the finals in Birmingham in March 2016 alongside seven other teams from that day.
