PADDY Ashdown has offered his condolences to the wife of a Crewkerne man who died in a three-vehicle collision which the former Yeovil MP was also involved in.
Mark Hurford, 49, died in the collision at Turnpike Cross on the A356 last Friday (January 24).
Lord Ashdown, of Norton-sub-Hamdon, was being driven by his wife, Jane, in their Renault Scenic when the incident occurred at around 5pm.
Lord Ashdown said: "My wife and I are very upset for the other family."
Mr Hurford's Vauxhall Corsa and a Ford Transit van were also involved in the crash, after which a 29-year-old man was taken to Yeovil District Hospital with a dislocated shoulder and back injuries.
Two other patients were treated for minor injuries by paramedics.
Investigating officer PC Andy Grigg is appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles before the collision to come forward.
Anyone who can help is asked to call the Collision Investigation Unit on the non-emergency number 101.
