A MAN has been left in a coma after being attacked in Crewkerne at the weekend.

He was seriously assaulted at around 1.45am on Sunday, September 22, in the car park off Abbey Street.

The victim - a man in his 30s - was assaulted and left unconscious with a fractured skull. He was taken to Frenchay Hospital where he remains in a critical condition and with serious injuries.

An investigation into the assault has begun and four men have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. They are currently in custody.

The offenders are thought to have left the scene in a Ford Focus type car and a vehicle matching this description has already been seized as part of the investigation.

However, police are continuing to appeal for anyone who saw the assault, or people and a car in suspicious circumstances at that time, or who has any information to contact us.

Speaking about the incident, DI Lee Jones, said: "The victim had been out with friends for the evening when he was assaulted and left on the floor with very serious injuries.

"Attacks of this severity are unusual in Crewkerne and we are working hard to investigate the assault. I am appealing to anyone who has information about the incident to contact us and tell us what they know."

Anyone who can help should contact Yeovil CID on 101.
