The Ring of Bells: Teams of Handbell Ringers from all over the South West met in the Jubilee Hall in Yarcombe on April 26 for a Ringing Round the Region' event.
The dexterity of the performers was amazing to behold, some playing more than one bell at a time with a flick of the wrist'. As the day was warm and sunny the hall doors were open and the sound of hundreds of handbells was heard all around the village.

Wine and Wisdom: The Jubilee Hall was full for a Wine and Wisdom evening organised by the Children's Fund on April 25. Teams of six participants were asked questions on various subjects by MC Andrew Chick and also completed running questionnaires on well known sayings and guessing part photographs of famous people.
Scores ranged from 61 to 93 points with lots in the middle and the winners and the losers were presented with awards.
Thanks to all who organised the food and wine, collected the question sheets and kept the score board up to date, and to Sarah Waplington who kept everyone guessing by setting the questions.
The Chocolate Quiz', which had been circulating in the village causing much lurking round the sweet counters in Tesco, was won by Shirley Hayden who received a basket of calories!

Skittles: Yarcombe skittles season came to a close with finals night in the Yarcombe Inn on April 26. This proved a late night as no one seemed to want to get started and several issues had to be resolved. Firstly the pairs game took place and was won by Elaine and Andrew Munt for the second year running. This trophy was supplied by Stringer Services.
The highest scoring man and lady from each team then played off, both resulting in a final hand having to be played to ascertain a winner. Stuart Boyd narrowly losing to Des Doble for the Yak Cup and Liz Freeman to Louise Chick for the Glenn Blackler Rosebowl. Paul Barnacle achieved the highest score of the season and took away the Frank Bond Cup. The league had also been determined at the last match of the season with Paul's team coming out on top by beating Elaine Munt's team, and receiving the Vicar and Churchwarden's Cup.
The Marilyn Lye Knockout competition was won, quite by chance, by Andrew Chick's team, with Mervyn Woolcott's team in second place.
Landlady Lindsey Middleton presented the prizes to the winners and runners up.
An extensive running buffet was available during the evening thanks to Alan and Lindsay and enjoyed by all present. Michael Dyer expressed everyone's thanks to Jon Stockwell who organised the season and chose the prizes.
