Irish comic comes to Yeovil

IRISH comic Dara O Briain is bringing his stand-up show to Yeovil's Octagon Theatre today (Saturday).

The award-winning comedian, who is known for his straight-talking material and quick-fire routines, is performing in South Somerset following a sell-out tour in 2007.

Born in Wicklow in 1972, O Briain started his career as a children's television presenter while performing gigs on the Irish comedy circuit.

He came to prominence in 1998 as a team captain on the topical panel show Don't Feed The Gondolas before embarking on a hectic tour schedule across Europe, Asia, Australia, with gigs as far afield as Dubai, Boston, Adelaide, Shanghai and New York.

The charismatic comedian is a regular at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs festival in Ireland and the Edinburgh Festival, as well as making one notable appearance at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal in 2002 where he was offered a prestigious gala show because of his performances at the Irish showcase.

He is the host of the BB2 panel show Mock The Week, as well as a regular on satirical quiz show Have I Got News For You and QI, hosted by Stephen Fry.

Other notable television appearances include the BBC documentary Three Men and a Boat, in which he rowed up the Thames with fellow comics Griff Rhys-Jones and Rory McGrath to recreate the British comedy novel.

The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £19.
