YEOVIL MP David Laws has handed a petition to 10 Downing Street calling on the Prime Minister to keep Somerset post offices open.
He was joined at Downing Street by Somerton MP David Heath and Northavon MP Steve Webb.
The Government plans to close 2,500 post offices around the country including those at East Coker, Mudford, Barwick, Haselbury Plucknett and Goldcroft in Yeovil.
The petition from Yeovil constituency alone featured thousands of signatures.
And Mr Laws said: "I would like to thank the thousands of people who signed the petitions or sent slips back to me.
"The Prime Minister should recognise the importance of our local post offices, and reconsider the plans for closure."
