Political singer comes to South Petherton

FOLK rock singer Julie Felix will performing at The David Hall, South Petherton, tonight (Saturday).

One of the UK's best known female folk artists, Julie has been enlightening audiences for over forty years with her politically-charged music.

A dedicated humanitarian, she has visited the Middle East as a ambassador for Christian Aid, campaigned for Latin American refugees, founded Guitars Against Landmines and marched against the Iraq War in London.

The Californian native arrived in England in 1964 with he father's Mexican guitar and became the first solo folk artist to be signed to a major British record company.

Named 'Britain's First Lady of Folk' in 1965, she was the first British-based folk singer to fill the Royal Albert HaIl and the first popular singer to perform in Westminster Abbey at the cathedral's 900th anniversary celebrations.

From 1968 to 1970 she hosted the BBC television series Once More With Felix, which featured artists such as Leonard Cohen and Led Zeppelin's lead guitarist Jimmy Page, and had two UK singles chart hits in 1970s with If I Could and Heaven Is Here.

With influences including her father's Mexican roots and the Native American people, much of Julie's own material celebrates the wonder of the natural world.

The concert starts at 8pm and tickets cost £12 full price, £11 for concessions.
