A CARING school with outstanding features in several areas - that was the verdict for Redstart Primary School, Chard, in a recent Government education inspection.
Ofsted inspectors have published a glowing report after visiting the school in March to look at all aspects of school life.
Inspector Jon Palethorpe gave an overall rating of good', with the school achieving outstanding' in many performance areas.
The report said: "There are outstanding features in several areas, in particular the curriculum and pupils' personal development and well-being.
"The good achievement is partly due to the good teaching pupils receive and partly to the excellent curriculum that provides extremely well for pupil's academic and personal development."
Inspectors praised the range of learning opportunities at the school, in particular the Redstart University and Forest School:
"The amazing diversity of opportunities in the Redstart University, ranging from Japanese language and culture to budget management, effectively utilise the expertise of teachers and teaching assistants.

"The innovative Forest School, where once a fortnight pupils work on outdoor activities, develops team building and self-esteem.
"This effectively stimulates and motivates pupils, making them want to learn and be part of the school."
Redstart's inclusion strategy for pupils with learning difficulties was also commended:
"Its inclusion strategy is outstanding, providing effectively for all pupils, irrespective of their academic, physical, social or emotional state."
The only areas of improvement suggested was to raise the standard of pupils' writing to fall in line with their other subjects and to develop the role of the subject co-ordinators.
Head teacher Suzanne Flack said: "We're very pleased with the report, the team knows that the school is doing well but it's good to have an outsider agree with us.
"Actions are already in place for the improvement points."
She added: "The inspectors commented on how well behaved the children were which is an important reflection on the school.
"To us, if the pupils are happy then the school is doing well."
