FIFTY four members and one new member enjoyed the May meeting of Chard Ladies' Evening Guild held at the Guildhall.
It was announced that the Chard 750 Flag which the Guild's handicraft group had made for the 1985 Chard Charter celebrations has now been temporarily been put into the museum for an exhibition until the end of October. It had been thought that the flag had been lost during the Guildhall rebuilding scheme but members were pleased to hear that it has now been found and needs only a small amount of repair. Twenty years of wind and rain have taken their toll!
Chris and Robin Williams were presented with bottles of wine in thanks for having produced the new programmes, and Chris was named, together with Maggie Carter, as being the two members designated to take charge should there ever be an accident at a meeting. Neither is a first aider but will act as 'policewomen' in ensuring that the casualty is not overcrowded by too many concerned helpers.

The groups are busy as usual with handicraft meeting on May 22, drama on May 14, and homes and gardens travelling to Exmouth and Otter Nurseries on May 15. The ramblers will be walking in the Charmouth, Kilmington and Wambrook areas during the month.
The main part of the evening was an entertainment by the drama group which took the form of a magazine entitled 'Over the Hill - part two'. All the usual items to be found in a women's magazine were there with their own take on how they should really be presented! Hats for Ascot (of sorts), a dating agency for the timid, a doctor's surgery not for the faint hearted, and a travel agent's job to be avoided at all costs were interspersed with poems and monologues giving other dubious advice!
The raffle was won by Doreen Hallett, Muriel Hallett, Jean James, Maureen Church and Pat Ives and the competition by Pat Ives and Chris Williams.
The next meeting will be on June 3 when Mr M. Welshman will talk about some experiences of a retired vet. The competition will be for something made of glass and everyone is very welcome to join in at 7.30pm.
