AT their meeting on April 24, members of Chard Folk Dance Club quickly got a chance to say hello to each other in the first dance called Instant Mix.
Thereafter, being the day after St George's Day, the dances had a distinctly English flavour to them. What is more, with the exception of Yorkshire Square, they largely came from the West Country, with names like Steamboat to Devon, Bicky's Circle, and Somerset and Devon Bonny Breastknot.
Robert Blackborow, the caller, also chose the patriotically named Queen's Jig and Queen's Birthday. Nearly 60 people danced to the music of The Brydens and Ginny, and about a quarter of them also won prizes in the raffle.
