FIFTY four members and one new member enjoyed the May meeting of Chard Ladies' Evening Guild held at the Guildhall.

Ilminster Women's Institute

AT the Ilminster Women's Institute meeting held on May 7, a choice of resolutions to go forward to National Conference were discussed and voted on. Formal Institute business was dealt with, social events were diarised and two birthday posies presented.

Barrington & District Women's Institute

THE meeting on May 7 saw a long business meeting as resolutions had to be discussed. The results will go forward to the general meeting to be held in Liverpool. The resolutions were that deep sea trawling on the sea bed should be discontinued due to the damage to the eco system, and that prisoners suffering from mental disorders should be treated away from the prison environment. Both proposals were passed by a majority.

RETIRED vet Malcolm Welshman was the speaker at last month's meeting of Chard, Ilminster & District U3A, when members were entertained by a series of amusing and hair-raising stories of his encounters with exotic animals.

ILMINSTER Duplicate Bridge Club meets at the Speke Hall, Dowlish Wake at 7pm every Tuesday with table money of £2 per head which includes tea/coffee and biscuits.

THE recent annual meeting of the Somerset Wildlife Trust Ilminster/Chard group began on a sombre note with Gill Bromley paying tribute to Michael Cooper, chair of the group, who had died recently.
