MEMBERS of South Somerset District Council met last night to officially set the authority’s precept for the 2012-13 Council Tax.

The council’s precept will be added to those made by Somerset County Council, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Avon and Somerset Police and parish councils to make the overall bill which will be falling through letter boxes across the district in the coming weeks.

The district is being recommended to freeze its precept with a charge of £150.74 for the average Band D household. Last week the county council set its budget and the authority, which takes the lion’s share of the overall bill, set a charge of £1,027.30 for Band D households.

Overall bills for people living in Chard, based on Band D rates, should be about £1,537.16 for 2012-13, while those in Crewkerne it will be £1,534.44 and in Ilminster it will be £1,516.81.
