TATWORTH and Forton Parish Council has opposed plans for a housing development on the outskirts of Chard.
Developer Redrow Homes South-West gave councillors a presentation about its proposals to build 63 houses on land at Snowdon Farm at the end of Mitchell Gardens in Chard – a cul-de-sac of mainly retired people – but councillors felt they could not support the application due to a lack of information about possible protection of hedgerows and trees and drainage.
The parish council has been canvassed for its thoughts on the development as the earmarked land sits on its boundary with the town.
Plan agents Nathanial Lichfield & Partners have said they believe the development would make a ‘valuable contribution’ to the housing requirements of the town.
People who live near the earmarked site have opposed the scheme for several reasons – particularly the extra traffic that may be generated by the development.
South Somerset District Council’s Area West committee will make a final decision on the application at a meeting on Wednesday, February 15, at the Guildhall in Chard.
