PEOPLE fed up with dog mess littering the pavement are being urged to contact Chard Town Council.
Its operations manager, Terry Powell, has told the News that any readers who experience persistent dog fouling should call the council on 01460-239567.
The News has recently received complaints from people claiming the dog muck situation has got out of hand in certain parts of town.
Some people have said dog owners are failing to clean up after their pets but the owners have suggested they have had problems in the past getting rid of the mess because the dog bins have been full.
Mr Powell said: “The dog litter bins are routinely emptied weekly and where necessary the bins are cleared on an individual basis where calls are made of bins being full.
“Over the holiday periods, such as Christmas, those bins which in the past have been identified as being ‘popular’ do receive additional visits.
“Any ad-hoc calls from the public about dog fouling on the pavements, pathways and road are treated as urgent response calls and staff are sent to clear the area as soon as possible.”
Mr Powell said the council’s amenities staff would pick up any dog mess found on their normal rounds, although it would not be individually recorded, unless it was appearing on|a regular basis or was a “large quantity.”
