FIERCE Celtic warriors prepared to repel the Roman invaders in Chard as a history lesson came to life on Friday.

Legionary Valerius Genialis and Corius the Briton from the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter visited students from the Home Learning Centre to demonstrate what life was like nearly 2000 years ago.

Throughout the morning, the home-educated youngsters from Somerset, Devon and Dorset heard from Museum Learning Officer Neil Heasham what life was like as an Iron Age Briton, how the Romans really invaded and discussed how they would react to the invasion.

In the afternoon, Roman re-enactor Oly Martin put the youngsters through their paces as they learned how Legionaries trained and fought, before taking to the fields to do battle.

The Royal Albert Memorial Museum offers workshops to schools and other youth groups in the area, for details contact Neil Heasham on 01392-665954 or go to the related links below.
