Drivers reminded of drink drive dangers

MOTORISTS in Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne are being reminded of the dangers after national surveys revealed a shocking number don’t know the drink drive limits.

Research from Zurich Insurance shows that an astonishing 20 million drivers, over half of motorists in the UK, do not know the legal drink-drive limit. A further 27 per cent admit to driving with their reactions impaired by alcohol.

But more than half of Brits, 57 per cent, are calling for a zero tolerance policy this festive season, resulting in any driver over the limit having their license immediately suspended.

Police and local authorities are restating their advice – if you are going to have a drink to celebrate the New Year, don’t get behind the wheel.

Drivers are also reminded that alcohol will remain in the bloodstream for some time and to allow for this if driving on New Year’s Day.
