1:20pm Tuesday 23rd December 2008 in Chard By Richard Purdon
CHARD In Bloom volunteers have been digging deep to plant something a little different but just as eye-catching.
The green-fingered group was instrumental in getting the ‘Welcome to Chard’ sign on Furnham Road renovated.
Cerdic Foundries of Chard generously arranged to have the sign sandblasted in their factory before Andy Bourner of the Amenities Team of Chard Town Council repainted it.
The sign was then relocated by Andrew Hensher and his amenities team last week.
Cllr Jill Shortland, leader of Somerset County Council, gave Chard in Bloom a real boost with a generous donation and assistance from the Highways Department.
Chard in Bloom chairman Tom Langford said: “We wish to thank everyone involved in achieving this – now, a more obvious ‘Welcome to Chard’.”
