TRADERS and shoppers in Chard were left confused today as South Somerset District Council installed a street sign in the wrong location.

The sign was installed the High Street sign outside the Bakers Dozen in Fore Street this morning.

After receiving calls from shop owners the News called the council to investigate.

A spokesman said: “After speaking on the phone we double checked and triple checked.

“We decided the sign could cause confusion as High Street doesn’t start until the other side of the junction so it has been taken down.

“Outside the bakers is still Fore Street so it’s now been changed.

“Thank you for bringing it to our attention and the sign has been taken down.”

The sign was up for less than an hour.
