Serious assault in Chard

A CHARD man is fighting for his life after a serious assault in the town.
The man in his 50's suffered serious head injuries on Sunday and remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Police were called to the incident in Chesterfield at 3.40am after reports that a man had been assaulted.
He was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and then transferred to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.
A police spokesman said: "Five people were arrested and released on bail pending further inquiries.
"A motive is unclear at this stage."
