CHARD Hockey Club is appealing for new members to take on the role of goalkeeper for their ladies team.
The club, which celebrated its 101st anniversary this year, has three women's teams but need more ladies willing to try out for the goalkeeping role.
At the moment just two ladies take on the goal, Hannah McGowan and Charlie Carver-Bale - both 16.
Club coach Trevor Goss said: "I think a lot of people think goalkeeping will be scary but it's really not.
"You are provided with all the padding you need and you barely feel a thing!"
The ladies first team play on Saturdays in Sedmoor Division One having won promotion last season with the other two ladies teams competing in the Kitson and Trotman friendly league on Sunday's.
"The team has players from across the age spectrum but can't seem to find any goalies," added Trevor.
"Given this shortfall we are anxious to encourage anyone interested in having a go at being a hockey goalkeeper to attend our weekly training session on Wednesday's from 8-9pm on the Holyrood school pitch.
The club will provide goalkeeping kit and a stick, coaching from qualified coaches and a warm welcome."
Goalkeeper Hannah Mcgown said: "It is actually quite fun - everyone says is it boring or scary but it is a good role.
"As you're all padded up you can take people out and run towards them knowing you won't get hurt!
"I'd encourage anyone interested to come down and just find out what it's like - you'll probably enjoy it!"
For more information call Trevor on 01460-55433 or just turn up on Wednesday between 8-9pm.
