HEALTH-conscious Christians in Chard will be able to take communion in good faith with the introduction of gluten free wafers.
St Mary's Church in the town has introduced gluten free communion wafers for people with food allergies to stop them from becoming ill.The Rev Tony Woodward said: "One of our congregation discovered she had Celiac Disease and couldn't eat gluten."So, whenever she has communion she has a gluten free wafer. They are square and I keep them separate from the normal round ones."He added: "At the moment we only have one member who has the new wafers, but there may be others in the congregation who don't know they are available and don't come to take bread and wine because of that."So we may get more people coming to take communion so they don't get left out."It's all about inclusion."
