WORK to replace chimneys on a listed building in Chard will begin a week on Monday (September 10).
Harveys on High Street is a Grade II listed building and will have all its 16 two-meter-high chimneys replaced throughout the work.
Trustees commissioned the work by Minsterstone of Ilminster after cracks appeared in the structures.
Tony Prior, clerk to the trustees said: "A professional report indicated that the metal reinforcing was rusting and cracking the concrete and making the chimneys potentially dangerous.
"Trustees thought it right and proper that they should be replaced thus because of the historical importance of the building in Chard."
Scaffolding will be put up around each chimney and a crane will be used to remove and replace them.
The crane will be operating from High Street but it is hoped there will not be too much disruption.
Mr Prior added: "I hope that we will cause a minimum of disruption to Chard although work is likely to last several days.
"I have been advised that traffic lights will not be needed if no parking bollards are placed on both sides of the road outside Harveys. I have contacted the police to request this."
