High flyers at Holyrood

THE wait is finally over for excited youngsters at Chard's Holyrood Community School as they collected their long awaited GCSE results today (Thursday).

Students achieved a range of good results across the board including 348 top passes at A and A* grades.

Nearly 60% of students gained between five and 11 passes at A*-C with 49% achieving five or more passes A*-C including maths and English.

One of the top scorers was Amy Wilson who received five A*'s five A's and one B grade and will be starting her A-levels at Richard Huish in Taunton in September.

She said: "I'm really pleased with my results.

"I was hoping I could achieve it, so I'm pleased I did well."

Head teacher Maurice Hicks said: "While a large number of students have achieved outstanding results and top grade passes, I am particularly pleased for all those young people who have achieved their personal best.

"The staff and governors are committed to motivating, challenging and supporting all young people to achieve their full potential and these results reflect our success in fulfilling this aim."

Many youngsters were keen to boost their chances before the exams, with around 160 giving up their holiday to attend revision classes in May.

Teachers and students gave up their time for the intensive revision programme, which focused on exam technique and subject revision.

Mr Hicks added: "The programme was a great hit with the students, who said it filled any last minute gaps in their knowledge and helped boost their confidence as they approached the final examinations.

"The staff have worked exceptionally hard with these students to ensure they achieved these excellent results."
