Welcome boost for lights fund

CHARD'S Christmas Lights Committee received a welcome boost this week with their concert under the stars.

The event, held at Tatworth Old Vicarage on Saturday night, included a host of local bands and solo artists and raised a spectacular £1,100 for the lights fund.

Organisers were thrilled with the event, after a slow start in ticket sales.

Jill Watts, committee chairman, said: "I was quite worried the day before, as we'd only sold six tickets around Chard.

"But around 230 people turned up at the event, and the rain even held off as well."

The lawns were filled with guests throughout the evening, enjoying the music, food and nice weather.

Due to its success, the committee are now considering holding the event again next year.

Jill added: "It was absolutely brilliant. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect it be so successful.

"People had tables, cutlery and proper meals. It was a really good evening.

"I'm absolutely over the moon."

Jill and the committee would like to thank Mr Bojangles, Free Flight, Elvis, all the traders who gave their services free of charge, and members of the public who made the evening possible.
