Chairman's praise for town attraction

THE new chairman of South Somerset District Council has praised the quality of displays at Chard Museum after paying his first visit last week.

Cllr Ian Martin told the News last month that after his appointment he wanted to get out into the community and meet people involved in local organisations.

The trustees of the museum took Cllr Martin at his word and invited he and his wife Pat to tour the exhibits last Monday.

Barry Dillon, museum chairman, said: "Cllr and Mrs Martin were very impressed both by the size of the museum and the quality of its displays.

"Before he left Cllr Martin wrote in the visitors book that the museum was "very revealing, delightful and very interesting".

"This echoes the feelings of many of the museum's visitors who come not only from the UK but from other parts of the world as well."

More than 2,500 people visit the museum each year but the trustees hope to welcome more local people.

During August, visitors will have the chance to see a display of photographs by Chard Camera Club and take part in a Museum Mysteries competition.

Tickets, valid for a whole year, cost £2.50 for adults and 50p for children aged five to 16.

All children must be accompanied.
