A CHARD woman is set to take on a series of daring fundraising challenges after her daughter was stillborn in October.

Daisy Hutchings is going to attempt a truck pull, an abseil and a 10-mile obstacle course as part of her charity feats this year.

She will also be standing outside Tesco from 8am to 10pm on Friday (March 23) to collect spare change for the Sands charity (stillbirth and neonatal death charity).

Daisy said: “Back in October, my little girl was stillborn, and Sands offer an amazing support group. I wanted to give something back to them by doing as many fundraisers as possible.

“The day at Tesco will just be one of the many fundraisers I have arranged for the coming year.”

Daisy’s daughter, Belle, also inspired her to create the woolly hat seen gracing Chard’s boulder in December.

The hat was organised and knitted by the crocheting group that Daisy is a member of, and members of the public were able to donate £2 to attach a tag, raising around £100.

It is the same group which created the boulder’s first woolly hat in 2016, then inspired by the death of another member’s grandfather.

Daisy added: “My husband and I are also doing a truck pull in May; my stepdad and I are doing an abseil in May; and I am doing Tough Mudder with two friends in August.”

The truck pull is set to take place at the Devon Truck Show just over the county border in Smeatharpe.

The abseil will see Daisy and her stepfather clamber down the side of Yeovil Hospital.

Meanwhile, Tough Mudder is a gruelling 10 to 12-mile obstacle race mud run designed by British Special Forces to “challenge the toughest of the tough.”

Daisy has already set up a JustGiving page which has so far raised £640 for the cause.
